During the training your dog will be boarded at our new clean kennel facility. The monthly training fee includes: boarding fees, bird fees, field fees, and one on one training session with the dog owner. At South Texas Gun Dogs we offer training for Retrievers of all types; Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Boykin Spaniels, etc. Our training includes all the basic obedience commands and field training. There are three different levels of training. Earning AKC titles is often a goal of our clients, and we love to help them achieve it. It is extremely rewarding to see your dog successfully competing in a sport that he was born to do. Most boarding services at a kennel will cost $650 or more for a one month stay. One kennel in Katy, TX charges $32 per day, totaling $960 per month. We charge $650 for each month of training. If you are going out of town, don’t waste your money on boarding fees! We will train your dog for less money! A description of our training program is below. HEAD START (Puppy Training) - We offer a head start training program for all puppies 4 to 5 months of age. Puppies can learn a lot from watching the older dogs work. Walks in the field, gun fire, intro to water, intro to feathers, physical conditioning, single retrieves on land and water, and early work with the obedience commands are all part of the program. This time is used to introduce the puppy to the hunting concept and environment. We have found that the head start program builds confidence into young puppies, and produces a better final product. The Head Start program is only offered to those who will continue their dog's training through the Basic Hunter program. A reduced training fee of $500 per month applies during the 1 to 2 months of Head Start training. BASIC HUNTER (Beginner) - The Basic Hunter program includes 5 obedience commands, gun breaking, physical conditioning, intro to water, building the drive to retrieve, singles on land and water, force fetch, steady to shot, e-collar conditioning and whistle commands. The Basic Hunter program totals 4 months of training. SEASONED HUNTER (Intermediate) - Many owners want to take their dogs past the Basic Hunter program, so we also offer the Seasoned Hunter program. This program includes doubles on land and water, running the double T, wagon wheel casting, de-cheating, honoring, and a walk up bird. This program takes an additional 4 - 6 months of training. At this point most dogs are ready to compete in the AKC Senior Hunt Test. SKILLED HUNTER (Advanced) - Owners wanting to go beyond the Intermediate enter our advanced training program. This is where dogs learn how to do blind retrieves, triples, diversion birds, and much more. Some dogs aren't capable of this level of training. Training at this level prepares a dog for the AKC Master Hunt title. * Training rates are subject to increase. * Any puppies purchased from us that return for training will receive a $100 per month credit toward training.
